American Airlines announces big route expansion at Dallas, Chicago

Tuesday, 14 March 20173 min read
American Airlines will launch five new routes from Dallas Fort-Worth this summer.
AA will fly year round to Billings, Montana and Spokane, Washington, and seasonally to Traverse City, Michigan, Rome; and Amsterdam.
They are part of 26 new routes announced at DFW and five other mainline hubs.
"To continue building on this momentum we’re focused on flying the right aircraft in the right markets at the right time," AA president Robert Isom said in an internal memo to employees.
"The greatest strength of our network is our ability to connect small cities with large ones through service to or through our hubs."
The biggest expansion is in rival United Airlines’ back yard with 11 routes coming to Chicago O’Hare.
These include more secondary cities such as Bozeman, Montana, Appleton, Wisconsin, Birmingham, Boise, Idaho, Colorado Springs, Greensboro, North Carolina, Greenville, South Carolina, and a seasonal summer service to Ontario, California.
AA also announced new international service to Guatemala City and Barcelona from Chicago.
AA hubs at Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami and Charlotte, N.C. will also see additional routes.
"These changes will arrive as summer begins — when we see the most demand from our customers. As a result, we need to build a schedule that allows us to maximize revenues and operate reliably," Isom added.
