American Airlines suspends first route due to 737 Max grounding

After nearly four months of disruption, American Airlines is suspending its first route as a direct result of the Boeing 737 Max grounding.

AA’s Oakland-Dallas/Fort Worth service will temporarily end from July 6.

It has been suspended until at least September 4, the airline said.

It operated up to four flights a day on the route.

It was a simple decision to suspend the route as American has other direct options to Dallas from nearby San Francisco or San Jose.

Passengers may change flights for these routes or from Oakland to Dallas via a change at Phoenix.

The Oakland-Dallas route was not originally operated by a Max jet but it has been forced to redeploy aircraft to minimize disruptions.

It has been canceling about 115 daily flights because of the Max grounding.

"A flight that was not scheduled as a Max flight might be canceled to enable our team to cover a Max route with a different aircraft. Our goal is to minimize the impact to the smallest number of customers," American said.
