American tourist spent hours trapped in Thai sewer

An American tourist had to be rescued from a dark, smelly sewer after apparently falling into an open manhole in Pattaya, Thailand.
Johnathan Vaimaona spent four hours in the sewer and was rescued after a passing Thai security guard heard cries for help.
A rescue team was summoned and lifted a metal grate off the drain to haul the American tourist out, who was covered in sludge.
He was washed down with a hose and interviewed over the circumstances, however local news reports said police are skeptical about his story.
