Another Fly Jamaica crash lawsuit filed

A second lawsuit has been filed in Canada against Fly Jamaica seeking compensation for the November crash landing in Guyana.

It is seeking class-action status in the name of four Toronto residents who were passengers on the flight.

The aircraft skidded off the runway at Guyana’s main international airport, ‘ripping off its right side landing-gear and engine,’ the lawsuit says.

It was carrying 82 Canadian citizens, although there were no major injuries at the time.

An elderly passenger died a week later, but it is still unclear if the crash was a factor in the death.

Law firm Rochon Genova said ‘passengers citted ‘a chaotic evacuation from the darkened smoke filled aircraft,’ and the pilots did not report an emergency situation with air traffic control prior to landing, which slowed down the emergency response.

The aircraft returned to the airport just minutes after take-off due to a hydraulic fault.

Passengers on the flight also said many of their belongings were stolen in the aftermath, including jewelry, cash and electronic devices.

Local media reported eight firefighters were arrested for allegedly stealing items from the cabin.

The law firm is seemingly seeking a quick settlement.

"A timely and fair resolution of this case is of critical importance to the victims and their families," the firm said
