Arrests in Bali after body is found in suitcase outside luxury hotel
Two people have been arrested in Bali after the body of an American tourist was found in a suitcase in a taxi outside a luxury hotel.
The victim, identified as 62-year-old Sheila von Wiese-Mack from Chicago, was reported to have been staying at the St Regis Resort on the island.
Police have detained the victim’s daughter, 19, and her boyfriend, 21, who were also staying at the hotel.
According to the BBC, Bali’s police chief Djoko Hari Utomo told journalists the detained couple had hired the taxi and put the suitcase in the boot.
They told the taxi driver they were going back to check out but did not return. The taxi driver noticed blood on the suitcase and alerted police.
After the body was discovered, police found the couple staying at another hotel in Bali, said the police chief.
The couple told police they had escaped after being held captive in the St Regis Resort by an armed gang, who had killed Sheila von Weise Mack.
