Bahamasair said it has uncovered a ticketing fraud scheme with one person arrested and others under investigation by the police.
The airline issued a statement but gave few details about the scam.
"We have uncovered a fraudulent scheme involving individuals offering unauthorized, deeply discounted tickets on Bahamasair. Upon discovery of this scam, we immediately alerted the appropriate authorities," it said.
"Additionally, any purchase of tickets for individuals other than the cardholder will require proper identification and proof of authorization of usage in order to be processed for travel."
Only tickets booked through the airline or authorized agents will be valid for travel, the carrier said.
"We discovered this early. The timing of the discovery aided us tremendously with this matter," said managing director Henry Woods.
Woods didn’t give details of the financial cost incurred due to fraudulent activity.
"Please be assured that the security of our customers is our number one priority and we are committed to doing everything in our power to keeping your purchases safe," the airline statement added.
