Bali tourist tax of up to $150 under consideration
Indonesia has finally confirmed a Bali tourist tax is being mulled.
The government is considering a tourist tax with a cost of between $45 to $150 being quoted.
The tourism ministry says it is still in the early stages of discussion with no certainty yet.
Pressure to impose a fee has grown steadily over several months due to an increase in bad behavior by foreign tourists.
A tourism tax could help ‘prevent Bali from becoming known only as a cheap destination,’ Bali Tourism Board chairman Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana said.
So far this year there have been over 100 foreigners deported from Bali for a range of infractions.
While many are visa violations, tourists disrespecting cultural sites have gained the most publicity.
