Belfast City reopens after plane’s ‘hard landing’
Belfast City Airport has restarted flights this morning, after a ‘hard landing’ closed the runway on Sunday.
The Emerald Airlines operated Aer Lingus regional flight had to be towed off the tarmac due to the emergency incident which caused flight disruption.
The positioning flight had flown from Edinburgh but only carried four crew with no passengers on board.
Although the runway is operational again, several domestic flights have been cancelled on Monday.
These include services to Birmingham, Leeds Bradford and London City airports.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) is on the scene investigating.
“Passengers impacted by the runway closure, or those due to travel today should check the status of their flight with the airline before making their way to the airport,” Belfast City said.
It took several hours for the runway to be cleared.
The plane was eventually removed in the early hours of Monday.
Some flights were diverted to Belfast International Airport and Dublin.
