Best Western gets a ton of green properties
Ufford Park to be 100th ‘green graded’ property
Best Western is celebrating the ‘green grading’ of its 100th property by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) eco-label as part of Green Tourism Week which took place last week see story: http://www.travelmole.com/stories/1148088.php) making the group the largest within GTBS membership.
The four-star Best Western Ufford Park in Suffolk has achieved a Silver grade in recognition of its environmentally-friendly initiatives, making it the 100th Best Western hotel in the scheme.
Keith Pope, Director of Best Western said “We are delighted to have achieved our 100th graded hotel during Green Week. Over the last three years our independently owned and managed hotels have been working hard to gain accreditation for all their green initiatives and this is the icing on the cake for us.
“From recycling rain water, to adopting gorillas and installing electric car charging points to woodchip boilers our hotels have really embraced green initiatives and these bronze, silver and gold accreditations are testament to their commitment.”
The British office is also the trailblazer for Europe for their green initiatives as they have the most accredited hotels out of the Best Western group. After achieving the 100 mark the hotel group have set their sights on a new goal – to have half the group’s hotels accredited with gold, silver or bronze in the next 12 months.
Said Andrea Nicholas, managing director of the GTBS and organiser of Green Tourism Week, “The GTBS has worked with Best Western for three years now and is delighted to make this milestone grading a highlight of Green Tourism Week – and making the group the largest within the GTBS.”
“These independently-owned, characterful hotels, many of which are historic which can make ‘greening’ a challenge, work particularly hard to incorporate the sustainable initiatives and practices which earn them their gradings.
We are looking forward to helping the Best Western brand strengthen its environmental credentials further as more properties sign up for the cost savings as well as valuable marketing messages which ‘guaranteed green’ status brings.”
