A body has been found in the water near Sydney following a search for a passenger who went overboard.
A guest on P&O Cruises’ Pacific Adventure went overboard just before the Elvis themed cruise docked in Sydney.
After a search operation a body was found a few hours later.
NSW Police received reports a P&O passenger had gone overboard about 10 nautical miles from Sydney Heads around 4am on Monday.
The air and sea search was led by NSW Police Marine Area Command.
The man went overboard just two hours before it was due to dock in Sydney Harbour.
The ship, carrying more than 2,600 guests.
Police said bad weather hampered the search with five-metre waves amid strong winds.
“We thank guests for their care, understanding and patience on what’s been a distressing day for guests and crew,” a P&O spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the guest at this difficult time.”
A report on the incident will now be passed to the local coroner.
The ship’s next voyage has been delayed by a few hours.
Hours earlier, a guest was evacuated off the ship due to a medical emergency.
