A bodyboarder has been killed by a shark in a popular surfing resort in Western Australia.
The man, aged 21, was killed instantly when the shark bit him in half while he was bodyboarding with friends in Boneyards in Bunker Bay, south of Perth yesterday.
Around 30 other surfers were also in the water.
According to Australian press, the country sees an average of one fatal shark attack a year despite an increase in watersports like surfing.
Last month a British man was killed in a shark attack while on honeymoon in the Seychelles.
A French tourist was killed by a shark off the same beach just two weeks before.
According to the BBC, between 2001 and 2010 there were 120 shark attacks off Australia, 41 off South Africa, 20 off Brazil, and 12 off the Bahamas.
There were also more than 400 recorded shark attacks in the US, 268 occurring off the coast of Florida, 41 off Hawaii, 32 off California and 60 of North and South Carolina combined.
