Border control announcement ‘in the next few days’, says Home Secretary
Home Secretary Priti Patel has said new rules on entering the UK will be announced ‘in the next few days’ but again failed to provide clarity of what those measures will be.
Patel told the BBC this morning that ‘further action is going to take place’ and said a review on border requirements is ‘taking place right now across government’.
Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove first said on Tuesday that an announcement would be made later that day on the new border requirements, which is widely expected to include a negative Covid test.
That announcement failed to materialise, while Prime Minister Boris Johnson then failed to provide clarity both during a briefing, and again in the House of Commons.
Pressed on the issue on the BBC’s Today programme, Patel said: "Further action is going to take place and the government is reviewing measures at the border.
"You will hear very shortly some of the changes the government will be proposing around measures at the border.
"There will be announcement by the Department of Transport in the next few days."
