Branson calls for cross-industry forum to tackle climate change
Sir Richard Branson has urged airlines, tour operators and other travel companies worldwide to pull together to tackle climate change.
He said up to 25% of the world’s aviation carbon dioxide emissions could be cut if airlines, airports, travel companies and governments worked together.
A week after pledging £1.6bn of Virgin profits towards renewable energy initiatives, Branson is now calling for a cross-industry forum to tackle global warming
Possible measures include aircraft being towed by a small tug to the starting grid instead of sitting with engines on waiting for take-off.
Airlines could also reduce fuel used in landing by adopting a slower and smoother method of descent, he said.
