British man pleads guilty to violating Singapore quarantine

Saturday, 17 Feb, 2021 0

A British man pleaded guilty this week to violating Singapore’s strict quarantine rules.

Nigel Skea, 52, admitted sneaking out of his hotel room to meet his Singaporean wife.

He is now facing the prospect of up to six months in prison or a fine of up to $10,000.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of violating a control order and one of failing to wear a face mask.

Wife Agatha Maghesh Eyamalai was staying at the same hotel but not under quarantine.

She was accused of aiding and abetting Skea in breaking protocols.

Court documents allege Skea had left his room three times.

Singapore requires arrivals to undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine at designated hotels.

Singapore has taken strict action against breaking Covid quarantine rules with some people handed down hefty fines or prison sentences, and some expats have had their work permits revoked.
