Budget carrier Go First files for bankruptcy
Indian budget carrier Go First has abruptly grounded all flights and filed for airline bankruptcy.
It said full refunds will be issued to all affected customers ‘shortly.’
Go First says the grounding will last for three days.
Go First’s airline bankruptcy filing will be heard by the National Company Law Tribunal court on Thursday.
The airline has blamed long running problems with Pratt and Whitney engines.
It had to ground nearly half its fleet due to engine issues.
This in turn has cost the airline about $1 billion in lost revenue, it says.
It caused a severe cash flow problem.
The airline has an all Airbus A320 fleet.
“We had to take this step due to the ever-increasing number of failing engines supplied by Pratt & Whitney,” an airline statement said.
India’s Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said: “The government of India has been assisting the airline in every possible manner.”
