Business is back, says Tourism Australia
Latest figures from Tourism Australia show that business event visitor arrivals have recovered strongly following the global financial crisis, and are almost back to 2008 levels.
Between January and November 2010, Australia received 174,600 convention/ conference visitors, an increase of 21 percent on the previous year.
For the same period overall business arrivals increased 14 per cent yearâ€onâ€year to 828,600, while total arrivals to Australia increased six per cent to 5.9 million.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the organisation had kickâ€started the year with a focus on reâ€entering the US business events market and strengthening the close ties with the markets in North and South Asia to capture the return in business growth.
The North American marketing activity will see Tourism Australia host a stand for the first time at IMEX USA in Las Vegas in October 2011 and a tailored US educational visit.
“For North and South Asia, a tailored road show will visit Hangzhou, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta to access buyers in these key markets,†McEvoy said.
“Europe is also on the agenda with plans including a presence at IMEX (Frankfurt), a famil for UK buyers in June and exhibition at EIBTM in Barcelona in December 2011.
