Calabash Grenada Announces Multi-million Dollar Upgrade

Wednesday, 03 Jul, 2014 0

Green Globe member Calabash Grenada announces a major upgrade to its resort following its recent recertification as a sustainable tourism operation. The multi-million dollar project will bring standards at the five-star resort to an increased level of luxury and improve its quality of service. The all-suite resort, which also features five top end villas, attracts high-end travellers due to its reputation for combining five star service and luxury within a relaxed and intimate environment.

Calabash has always considered the environment in all decision-making processes, and this upgrade project is no exception, with energy efficiency and water conservation being a major priority. Throughout the property energy efficient air conditioning units will be fitted and there are plans to complete the resort’s existing solar power project. In addition, the resort will upgrade its freezer system and water treatment facilities in order to recycle water in the gardens.

Resort Director Adele Garbutt whose family owns and runs the resort said, "Sustainability has always been a major priority for Calabash. Visitors come to Grenada because of its pure and beautiful surroundings, so it is our duty to constantly find ways to reduce our impact on the environment and to preserve our island’s natural beauty. Green Globe has provided us with the framework and support to develop our operation in a sustainable way, so we are hugely honoured to be certified and look forward to growing with Green Globe.

"We understand that our competition are luxury resorts worldwide, and with standards so high, we want to make sure that Calabash is constantly pushing forward to stand with the best in the world. We strongly believe in the importance of upgrading the resort during our closure periods each year. Over the past 20 years we have invested an average of $1M per year, however this year we are undertaking our largest and most exciting project."

Calabash Grenada will close from the 2nd of August to the 4th of October 2014 in order to renovate several areas around the 27-acre property, including their One Bedroom Pool Suites, which feature a private pool and sunbathing deck.  The entire suite category will be completely redesigned with the finished product exuding elegance and style.

Green Globe Director of Communications Brad Cox said, "Grenada is one of our popular Green Globe destinations with a fine collection of certified hotels and resorts. The constant investment by the Garbutt family into Calabash continues to ensure improvements in environmental performance, while bringing greater levels of quality to the island’s tourism industry."
