Carnival Dream crew and passengers praised after flood

Wednesday, 08 May, 2018 0

Guests on Carnival Dream, which flooded while at sea, have returned to dry land and have praised crew for the way they handled the problem.

The ship docked at New Orleans on Sunday, three days after a burst water line emptied gallons of water into the ship.

A torrent of water damaged at least 50 staterooms, the line said.

Guest disembarking at New Orleans praised the crew’s efforts to contain the flooding and handling the aftermath.

It affected about 100 guests mostly on deck nine of the ship, Carnival Cruise Line said.

"I thought they handled it well. They had a lot of crew over there trying to clean up and they had towels out, vacuums out," guest Joann Mizanskey told Fox 8.

Carnival refunded passengers and gave out a 50% cruise credit, as well as the option to fly straight home from Mexico.

"They handled it great. They flew everyone who was able to fly home with a passport," according to guest Jessica Hoven.

In an update, Carnival Cruise Line said the water main break ‘had no effect on the safe operation of the ship. The safety and security of our guests and crew is our top priority’.

It described the ‘amazing, positive attitude’ of both guests and crew and said just two guests opted to be flown home from Cozumel.
