Carnival Cruise Line is being sued for allegedly preventing a passenger who had a heart attack from leaving a ship for urgent medical care.
A lawsuit accuses the crew of the Carnival Sunshine for keeping Jeffrey Eisenman aboard the ship ‘against his will’.
The suit says he was confined to the medical centre after the ship’s doctor diagnosed he suffered a ‘major heart attack’ on December 3.
He died the following day.
"Jeffrey Eisenman died onboard while confined to the medical centre of the Carnival Sunshine against his will. His family was forced to watch on in horror at his mistreatment and decline into a gruesome death," the lawsuit states.
The family says it informed the cruise line Eisenman had travel insurance which covered a medical air evacuation but the ship then left Grand Turk with the patient still aboard.
They accused carnival of ‘wilful inhumane conduct’ in holding a critically ill man ‘imprisoned’ in an unequipped medical centre.
"Inexplicably, all their requests and pleas for help went unanswered," says the lawsuit.
