Carnival Glory to house FEMA workers in New Orleans
Carnival Cruise Line is laying on one of its ships to house FEMA workers in New Orleans tasked with the post-hurricane clean up and reconstruction.
Carnival Glory will serve as floating accommodation for first responders through 18 September.
Carnival will cancel Glory’s scheduled 12 September cruise and resume sailing from New Orleans on Sunday, 19 September.
It had already cancelled the 5 September departure.
The ship has begun provisioning food, water and materials to prepare for up to 2,600 hospital workers, first responders, and utility workers.
The ship will stay in port and serve as housing for frontline workers directly involved in the city’s infrastructure recovery and healthcare needs.
"While we want to provide the city of New Orleans with an economic boost by restarting guest operations, we want to first provide this critical housing support to address emergency needs and to get power restored to the region," said Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line.
