Carnival Horizon collides with pier in New York
Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship ended a recent cruise with a bang – quite literally.
The 133,596-ton Carnival Horizon slammed into the Manhattan dock on arrival after an eight-night Caribbean cruise.
No injuries were reported and the ship suffered only ‘minor’ damage.
It was later cleared to resume operations.
There was no disruption to the embarkation process, said Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen, stating ‘the impact to the bow of the ship was minor.’
"The US Coast Guard and other authorities have been notified," he said.
According to a preliminary investigation by the US Coast Guard, the ship damaged two metal support beams and a section of a parking area a level above.
"Ports America has brought in contractors to make repairs," said spokesman Andrew Rudansky.
After the Horizon was also assessed, the 3,960-passenger ship was able to depart as planned on its next Caribbean cruise.
