Still over a year away from opening, Carnival’s resort destination Celebration Key is set for a major expansion.
The planned two-ship dock will double in size by 2026, giving it capacity to handle four of its largest excel-class ships at once.
“Building the second pier now allows us to implement growth plans and build itineraries with certainty,“ said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
It will cost about $100 million, bringing the total investment in Celebration Key to about $600 million.
It is Carnival’s biggest project of its kind.
The pier expansion plans were revealed by I. Chester Cooper, Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism.
Overall, Celebration Key will generate about 700 local jobs.
The first phase of Celebration Key opens next summer and is designed for Carnival Cruise Line guests.
It is divided into five distinct areas, called ‘portals.’
These have their own atmosphere and feature various dining, entertainment and shopping.
