Carnival trialing room service charge
Days after Norwegian announced plans to trial a ‘service charge’ for room service orders on its two big ships Breakaway and Getaway, Carnival has unveiled similar plans.
Next week Carnival will launch a new room service menu with some hot food items costing from $4 to $7, including pizza, fried shrimp and sushi.
Items that will still be available at no additional charge include hot and cold sandwiches, continental breakfast with cold items, salads, desserts and drinks.
The pilot program will begin on April 12 on the Carnival Imagination, Carnival Conquest and Carnival Pride, and could be expanded to other ships depending on guest reaction, the cruise line said.
"The expanded room service menu is designed to significantly broaden and upgrade the line’s culinary choices available for in-room delivery," a Carnival statement said.
"There continues to be a wide range of complimentary choices, and these new fee-based options are simply intended to create even greater choice."
Last week, Norwegian Cruise Line said it would trial a room service fee of $4.95 on the Norwegian Getaway and $7.95 on the Norwegian Breakaway along with an upgraded breakfast menu and more options offered on the 24-hour menu.
