Cathay Pacific cockpit goes digital

Wednesday, 11 Dec, 2019 0

Cathay Pacific is going paperless in the cockpit.

It is rolling out a new digital flight and weather application which will allow pilots to do away with 70kg of technical manuals and related paperwork.

The airline reckons this will save up to one million litres of fuel a year across its network.

The carrier operates more than 500 flights a day.

The ‘Cathay Pacific Flight Folder’ app is a digital version of pre-flight briefing notes and material and tools used to monitor navigation, fuel logs, and weather data and other functions.

It also features a digital weather monitoring system, called ‘MyFlightWx,’

It will allow Cathay pilots to ‘undertake challenging roles digitally and more efficiently,’ said Greg Hughes, chief operations and service delivery officer.

Other global carriers including British Airways and Lufthansa have already eliminated paper-based manuals from the cockpit.
