CBP dog sniffs out dead monkeys in passenger’s bag
A Customs and Border Protection dog has sniffed out a particularly morbid find at Boston Logan Airport.
The pooch named Buddey discovered mummified monkeys.
They were in the bag of a recently arrived traveler from Africa.
The traveler had moments before claimed it was dried fish, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
They were apparently brought from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Raw meat from wild animals like this is known as bushmeat and is a health hazard.
“Bushmeat can carry germs that can cause illness, including the Ebola virus,” Julio Caravia, the area port director at CBP Boston, said.
According to the CBP, the Centers for Disease Control ordered it to be destroyed along with the luggage it was found in.
The passenger said it was for ‘personal consumption’ and no charges have been filed.
