China Airlines will take over all of shuttered TransAsia Airways’ routes on a temporary basis.
CAL will start operating the flights from December 1 until February 15, 2017.
TransAsia abruptly closed down on November 22 after severe financial difficulties following two fatal plane crashes.
The government will provide subsidies to CAL while it operates the routes.
Then from mid-February it will formally allocate the routes on a permanent basis to interested carriers.
Meanwhile the former chief of the Taiwan air regulator said he is heading a group of investors keen to take over the airline.
Ex-Civil Aeronautics Administration director general Billy Chang said he is being backed by individuals in the high-tech business sector.
No other details of the consortium were revealed.
