China gets tough on unruly flyers

Tuesday, 12 Aug, 2016 0

A new civil aviation law proposed by China aims to hit unruly passengers in the pocket with heavy fines.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has highlighted more than a dozen types of bad behaviour which could trigger fines of up to 50,000 yuan (about $7,515).

It includes using mobile phones in-flight, smoking, forcibly occupying seats, blocking aisles and gates, breaking into airports and planes and assaulting crew members or other workers.

The law also requires all airlines to set up management systems to ‘ensure flight safety and to care for passengers’ interests.

The banning of mobile phones, even in flight mode, has not gone down well with the public, and has sparked a social media backlash.
