Chris Lorenzo to spearhead Royal Olympic’s UK expansion
Royal Olympic Cruises has confirmed the appointment of Chris Lorenzo as general manager (UK), which the company said marks the first step in its plan to substantially upgrade its UK sales presence.
Mr Lorenzo, who was previously managing director at Seafarer Cruising, will begin his new job by moving Royal Olympic’s UK offices to larger premises in Central London and by appointing two new regional sales managers, plus a number of reservations staff.
Later this month, he will introduce the cruise line’s winter 2002-2003 brochure and, in August, he will unveil a series of exUK cruises as part of its Summer 2003 programme. Roayl Olympic said he is currently in discussions with several UK tour operators regarding deals for next summer.
Commenting on his new role, Lorenzo said: “I jumped at the opportunity to steer Royal Olympic towards capitalising on its huge potential for growth in the UK market. I will be aided by the recent revitalisation of the Royal Olympic fleet, which has been lead by the introduction of its two newbuilds, Olympia Voyager and Olympic Explorer, and the considerable resources I have secured to build meaningful relationships with retail agents and tour operators.”
Mr Lorenzo will report to the cruise line’s Piraeus-based senior vice president sales and marketing, Gabriel Diacakis. Commenting on the appointment, Mr Diacakis said: “We are delighted with the appointment. Chris’ experience in the UK cruise industry will be a tremendous asset in our plans for considerable growth in sales from the UK.”
