City Airport prepares for rail link
A £500,000 awareness campaign to support the opening of a rail link to London City Airport has been launched.
The Docklands Light Railway extension to the airport is due to open on December 15 offering links from Bank and Canary Wharf.
As the first test trains started operating to evaluate the operating system, the airport’s managing director Richard Gooding said: “With just five months to go to the launch, we are counting down to the long awaited arrival of the UK’s most frequent airport rail link with trains every seven minutes.”
The DLR extension from Canning Town will allow passengers to reach the airport from Bank in 22 minutes.
The marketing push started by the DLR includes press advertising, branded taxis and door drops in the local area of east London.
DLR marketing and PR manager Sarah Allen said: “We want to communicate a faster, easier and cheaper method of transport that will benefit all users travelling to and from London City Airport.”
