Club Med has become the latest travel company to report a jump in bookings at the start of this year.

The all-inclusive resort specialist says the wet and windy weather has boosted bookings by 14%.

Bookings to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic are up 95% versus this time last year, while Mauritius is bookings are up 50%.

Closer to home, bookings for Greece and for Club Med’s new Belek resort in Turkey are up 30% and 20% respectively.

Estelle Giraudeau, marketing director of Club Med UK, said: "With the UK slowly coming out of the recession this year, people are feeling more optimistic and this has certainly been a contributing factor to the increase bookings."

Club Med has extended its summer sale, early booking bonus, to this Saturday (January 25).
