CMV ships to be auctioned off

Five of the six ships operated by defunct cruise line CMV are to be sold by auction.

Broker CW Kellock & Co is inviting bids for to be placed for Vasco Da Gama (above), Columbus, Astor, Magellan and Marco Polo from 8 to 22 October.

The four ships are being sold despite CMV’s former boss Christian Verhounig’s plans to relaunch the cruise line. Sky News reported that he had bought a number of CMV’s assets including its customer databases, computer systems, booking systems, IT infrastructure and intellectual property.

CMV’s 556-passenger ship Astoria is not up for sale as the ship was always due to leave the CMV fleet in October.

CMV had also been due to take delivery of two P&O Cruises ships, the Amy Johnson and Ida Pfeiffer next year.
