Construction of the MV Jayavarman is now officially underway following a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony and keel laying ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City last week. [pictured right]
Local Buddhist monks performed a time-honoured ‘blessing of the gods’ ceremony over the keel of the 58-metre vessel which, when finished by August next year, will be positioned as the most luxurious boutique cruise vessels seen to date on the Mekong River.
With construction costs estimated in excess of USD4 million, the MV Jayavarman’s onboard accommodation features 27 spacious staterooms each complete with private balcony.
The ship’s facilities also include a spa, a spacious restaurant serving eastern and western cuisine, two expansive lounges, a shop and a library spread over 800 square metres on a total of five decks.
The MV Jayavarman will make its maiden voyage in August 2009, sailing from Ho Chi Minh via Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, the jump off point for Angkor Wat.
Following her maiden voyage MV Jayavarman will commence operation of a medley of Mekong Delta cruise itineraries structured over three, four, five and eight days.
