Crown Resorts finally gets go-ahead for Sydney casino resort
Australian billionaire James Packer’s Crown Resorts has finally been given the green light for a A$2 billion casino resort project on the Sydney’s waterfront.
The company says it plans to start work as soon as possible after numerous delays and appeals during the planning approval process.
"While it has been a long and detailed process, we are pleased with the overall outcome and we’re committed to building a six-star hotel resort that Sydneysiders and all Australians can be proud of," said Robert Rankin, chairman of Crown Resorts.
The casino resort aims to capture business from the surging inbound Chinese market to Australia.
It follows Crown’s luxury casino resorts in Melbourne and Perth which have focused heavily on the China market.
Australia welcomed more than 1.1 million visitors from China last year.
Crown first proposed the casino project in 2012 and now expects to have it up and running by early 2021.
