Cruise ship crime data released
The Department of Transportation has released the latest statistics for reported crimes at sea.
It is part of the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act, which requires certain alleged crimes to be reported to the FBI.
These include certain thefts, and physical and sexual assaults.
In the second quarter there were a total of 36 alleged crimes, which is down from the first quarter when there were 47.
One third of all the crimes reported were on Carnival Cruise line ships. It included one suspicious death and one American missing from a cruise ship.
Norwegian Cruise Line had eight criminal incidents and Royal Caribbean had five.
Of the incidents mandated in the quarterly reports, allegations of sexual assault again dominated, accounting for 25 of the 36 crimes.
Last year there was a total of 131 sex crimes reported on cruise ships in the US
