Cruise ship cut in half and ‘stretched’
MSC Cruises has cut one of its smallest ship in two as part of €50 million upgrade to ‘stretch’ them.
Work on the MSC Armonia started today by inserting a new pre-built section into the original cruise ship.
Following the nine-week extension and refit, the cruise ship will be 24 metres longer than before and boast an additional 193 cabins.
The engineering feat, taking place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily, is the beginning of the €200 million ‘Renaissance’ project which will transform all four of MSC Cruises’ similarly-sized cruise ships, Msc Sinfonia, Opera and Lirica.
Each ship will also see the addition of a spray water park for children, extended designer shopping outlets, refitted restaurants and public areas.
