Delta Air Lines will expand in-flight Wi-Fi supplier Gogo’s 2Ku connectivity to more than 300 more aircraft.
This will bring it to more than 600 aircraft in its fleet.
The 2Ku tech offers in-flight video streaming bandwidth capability and from the summer flyers will be able to access Wi-Fi from takeoff through landing on aircraft equipped with 2Ku.
"Delta customers have expressed an interest in their time in the air being as productive as their time on the ground, and 2Ku satellite offers a vastly upgraded in-flight Wi-Fi experience," said Tim Mapes, Delta’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
"By committing to more aircraft with 2Ku technology, we’re providing Delta customers with faster and more reliable in-flight connectivity."
Roll out has begun on the carrier’s Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A319 fleet and at least 35 jets will be 2Ku-enabled by the end of this year.
2Ku service will be available on Airbus A330-900Neo and A350-900 aircraft as they enter service in 2019 and 2017 respectively, the airline said in a release.
Delta has the largest Wi-Fi-equipped fleet in the world, operating 3,500 Internet connected flights every day, including the entire mainline fleet of 660 domestic aircraft.
"With 2Ku, Delta will be able to deliver the best in-flight experience to its passengers wherever they fly around the world. We know how important it is to Delta to bring this technology to passengers and we plan on getting it deployed on these aircraft as soon as possible," said Jon Cobin, Gogo executive vice president, global airline business group.
