After several weeks of damaging headlines for the airline industry Delta Air Lines has cancelled a Media Day due to take place this week.
The airline’s chief communications officer Ned Walker said: "With the recent focus by Congress on airline customer service issues that have gone viral on social media, we decided that the timing is not right to showcase Delta’s product innovations and global strategy."
Delta itself was involved in the most recent viral incident after booting a young family off an overbooked flight.
The bad press for US airlines kicked off a month ago with a passenger-dragging incident on a United Airlines flight. American Airlines too has been in the news for the wrong reasons.
This spate of incidents has prompted extra scrutiny from Congress who lambasted airlines executive last week at a hearing.
Walker said Delta is ‘reviewing plans to reschedule the Media Day’ which will take place sometime later in the year.
