Delta ditching single use plastic on flights and airport lounges
Delta Air Lines is joining the war on plastic by nixing straws and other single-use plastics from planes and airport lounges.
Plastic straws and stirrers will be eliminated and replaced by ones made from bamboo and birchwood.
A range of disposable plastic cutlery, plates, and dishware will be removed from its Sky Lounges and will instead use biodegradable or reusable alternatives.
The plastic wrappers on first class amenity kits will also be ditched.
Delta said it will also cut down on plastics use in its Atlanta HQ with no more plastic foam products in its workplace cafeterias.
Alaska Airlines kicked off the airline industry’s flight against plastics earlier this year and so far American Airlines, United and others have followed.
This plastic-free move has been a long time in the making, Delta insists.
"It’s really not a reaction. We have been working on this single-use plastics reduction for close to two years now," said Christine Boucher, managing director of sustainability and compliance.
