Delta, KLM partner for Covid-tested flights to Amsterdam
Delta Air Lines is teaming up with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to offer Covid-tested flights from Atlanta to Amsterdam.
The testing program begins on 15 December and is a collaboration with the airlines and the Dutch Government, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The testing program allows approved customers to skip quarantine upon arrival after receiving a negative PCR test result in the Netherlands.
"This is fundamental to restore passengers’ and governments’ confidence in air travel," said Pieter Elbers, President and CEO KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Each of the airlines will operate two Covid-tested flights a week.
Passengers must have pre-departure negative tests to be accepted aboard.
The program will operate for three weeks and could be extended to other routes.
When making bookings, customer can select tickets on the Covid-tested flights or choose to travel on other flights that are not in the trial program.
"Creating Covid-free travel corridors, in addition to the multiple layers of safety and hygiene measures we have implemented through the Delta CareStandard, will provide customers – and authorities – greater confidence that they can stay healthy when flying," said Steve Sear, Delta President, International.
The Netherlands currently requires all inbound passengers undergo a 10-day quarantine but this is waived on these flights when the customer tests negative a second time at Schiphol Airport.
