Disney caps agent commissions for onboard cruise bookings

Disney Cruise Line has capped commission rates for travel agents for onboard bookings – when a guest re-books for a future cruise during a sailing.
Rates are capped at a set 10%, down from a potential 16% depending on the sales volume of the agent.
"We continually evaluate our business practices and make changes from time to time," Disney said.
However rival line Royal Caribbean was quick to distance itself from following.
"When we saw the announcement, we knew we needed to get the message out quickly that we will not be matching this," said Royal’s sales vice president Vicki Freed.
"We want clients to rebook when they are onboard, when they are in the moment. We don’t ever want to misbehave with our travel-agency partners; we want to send them back to you and pay you a full commission," Freed said, addressing agents at the Ensemble Travel group conference.
"Once somebody leaves the ship we could lose the client to a competing cruise line and then we’ll have to do all that remarketing, and it’s risky for the travel agency, too."
