Disneyland scraps annual passes

Thursday, 18 Jan, 2021 0

After 10 months shuttered, which will likely continue beyond a full year, Disneyland has decided to eliminate annual passes.

Walt Disney Co said it will start issuing pro-rated refunds for passholders in the coming days.

Annual passes cost from $419 up to $1,449 depending on the privileges and access offered.

Disneyland launched the annual pass program back in 1984, when it sold for only $65.

Disney expects big pent-up demand when the parks do eventually reopen.

Guests can ‘expect restrictions around the reopening of our theme parks’ Ken Potrock, President of the Disneyland Resort said in a letter addressed to passholders.

"We plan to use this time while we remain closed to develop new membership offerings," he wrote.

It expects demand will be far in excess of capacity which could be as low as 25% when it initially gets the green light to reopen.

Florida’s Walt Disney World only recently increased capacity to 35%.
