Don’t worry, be happy
Two separate international studies have announced what Aussies already knew- Australia is the happiest nation in the world and one of the world’s most liveable countries.
In the ‘happiness’ survey, conducted by market research company Gfk NOP, more than 30,000 people were surveyed internationally on factors such as health, environment and quality of life , with Australia coming out on top.
A second survey, the Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability ranking rated 127 cities in the categories of culture, stability, the environment and healthcare infrastructure and education.
Melbourne was named the world’s second most liveable city, with Perth, Adelaide and Sydney coming equal fifth.
Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said “These surveys confirm what many of us have already known, and reflects why more and more tourists are choosing Australia as their destination of choice to take a holiday”.
“Australia should be the first choice for travellers around the world wanting to be amongst the happiest people on Earth and wanting to experience the world’s most liveable cities and its most unique rural, regional and remote spaces” claimed Tourism Australia’s Chairman, Tim Fisher.
Australians were also delighted by the overnight victory of their cricket team over the star studded Rest of the World XI.
