DOT takes aim at Southwest Airlines’ unacceptable’ flight cancellations
Southwest Airlines was slammed for ‘unacceptable’ last minute flight cancellations.
The airline is only operating one-third of scheduled flights for the next few days.
There were hundreds of flight cancellations with no advance warning.
It also sparked criticism from the federal government.
The Department of Transportation called the cancellations ‘disproportionate and unacceptable.’
“USDOT is concerned by the unacceptable rate of cancellations and failure to properly support customers.”
“We will closely examine whether it is complying with its customer service plan.”
The airline issued a public apology.

hold on ... doesn't DOT control FAA & airports ? The issue seems to be that aircraft are stuck at airports that have minimal runways open or none. Sounds like DOT is trying to pass the buck. They are effectively criticising the airports or the weather.
