Dozens struck down by bug at Club Med ski resort

Dozens of tourists have been struck down by a suspected norovirus bug at a Club Med ski resort in northeast China.

The China Daily newspaper cited ‘more than 200’ had been affected at Club Med’s Yabuli resort during Chinese New Year, but the company claims only 42 people reported symptoms.

Eight of these were examined by a doctor but none required hospital treatment.

The resort is being disinfected, the company said, but did not disclose whether it has identified the source of the outbreak.

Club Med apologised to guests, who will receive compensation.
"We plan to offer all customers who have been affected by the virus compensation equivalent to three times the price they spent," Club Med said in a statement.

China is Club Med’s largest market outside of France with six resorts open and another four planned to open by the end of 2020.
Chinese conglomerate Fosun bought Club Med in 2015 for more than $1 billion.
