Drone sightings halted arrivals at Newark

Drone sightings temporarily halted arrivals at New York’s Newark Airport yesterday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the drones were seen flying at around 3,500ft over another nearby airport, Teterboro, about 20 miles north.

But the airport was re-opened after no further drone sightings were reported.

The airport said it was coordinating with the FAA and fully supporting all federal law enforcement authorities as they investigate the incident.

Last month drone sightings near London Gatwick lead to the cancellation of 1,000 flights over three days, impacting the travel plans of around 140,000 people.

Earlier this month another drone sighting grounded flights for an hour at London Heathrow.

Both Gatwick and Heathrow are now investing in anti-drone technology which can detect drones and block communications with their operators.
