Dubai Announces Green 18 Hotel Award Shortlist

Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has shortlisted 18 hotels for the first-ever Dubai Green Tourism Awards.
In total, 79 entries were received from hotels in four categories – five-star, four-star, three-star and deluxe hotel apartments, said Shaikha Al Mutawa, director of business development, DTCM.
They were initially whittled down to a long-list comprising 33 hotels, which were all then subjected to vigorous site visits from August to December 2009.
The awards have been judged by an independent panel, made up of Ali Bin Towaih, executive director of Sustainable Energy & Environment Division (SEED) and Environment Park (Enpark); Habiba Al Marashi, EEG chairwoman; Majid Al Marri, director of hotel classifications, DTCM; Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, managing director, EWS — WWF; Satish Bhaskaran, executive director adminstration division; and Hamdan Al Shaer, director of environment, Dubai Muncipality.
DTCM has not confirmed a date to announce the winners, but Al Mutawa hinted it would be an “environmentally strategic day”.
THE SHORTLISTED HOTELS:
Five-star: Al Qasr, Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt Dubai, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah / Mina A’Salam Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah / Dar Al Masyaf, Hyatt Regency Dubai Hotel, Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa Hotel
Four-star: Towers Rotana, Qamardeen Hotel, Courtyard By Marriott
Three-star: Princess Hotel, Regal Plaza Hotel, Versailles Hotel
Deluxe apartments: Grand Hyatt Dubai, Marriott Executive Apts Dubai Creek, Savoy Crest, Savoy Suites Apartments Deluxe
