EasyJet delays fleet renewal by up to five years

Sunday, 16 Jun, 2020 0

EasyJet has deferred the delivery of 24 new aircraft by at least five years, with the first not joining its fleet until 2025.

The airline announced in April that it would delay the delivery of 32 new Airbus, which had been due to arrive between June this year and December 2021.

Eight were deferred until 2022 and the airline announced that the remaining 24 will now be delivered between 2025 and 2027.

EasyJet said it has received ‘a very substantial discount’ from the list price on all of the planes.

The airline also has the option until December to defer two aircraft and the option to not take up to seven aircraft currently scheduled for delivery between 2022 and 2026.

It has also extended the deadline for existing purchase options on 13 aircraft from November 2020 to November 2021 for seven planes and to November 2022 for the remaining six.

CEO Johan Lundgren said: "I am pleased to confirm the detail of easyJet’s revised aircraft delivery commitments.

"The 24 aircraft that were originally deferred beyond December 2022, will now be delivered from FY2025 to FY2027, whilst our significant discount from list price remains unchanged.

"We have also agreed further flexibility in relation to deferral rights and future purchase options. The changes agreed defer capacity in the medium term while continuing our long-term strategy of replacing our older fleet with the advanced and lower fuel burning A320NEO family."
