Easyjet expands network outside EU
Easyjet has announced what it claims is its most significant expansion for two years after launching new routes to Marrakech, Istanbul and Croatia’s third largest city, Rijeka.
Daily services will operate from Gatwick to Marrakech from July 4 and from Luton to Istanbul from June 29 with a four times weekly frequency from Luton to Rijeka beginning on June 30.
Chief executive Andrew Harrison said the expansion of its non-EU network will exploit both the growing leisure and business travel markets.
“Croatia, Turkey and Morocco are forging an ever-closer relationship with the UK and Europe,” he said. “As a consequence the demand for low cost fares to these countries is growing quickly and easyJet will be in a unique position to benefit from this development.”
Harrison added: “This is probably our most significant expansion since the start of our new routes to Central and Eastern Europe in May 2004.”
