Emirates appoints Project Manager for Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa
Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline, has appointed Joost Heymeijer to the position of Hotel Project Manager for the A$50 million Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, Australia’s first six star resort.
Using the philosophy of the award-winning Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa in Dubai, the Australian conservation project will be one of Australia’s most environmentally sympathetic developments, providing world-leading hospitality facilities and services to guests.
Mr Heymeijer has a wealth of experience in both the Australian, North American and European hotel industries and is well equipped for the task of overseeing the development of this luxury, premier resort.
Mr Heymeijer began his career with Hilton International in Europe, working with them in the USA, United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands before moving to Australia in the mid-1990s.
Prior to joining Emirates in September 2005, Mr Heymeijer operated his own Hospitality Consultancy and Project Management business: Toast Solutions. He has also been involved in projects ranging from running one of the largest food and beverage operations in Australia at the Sydney Hilton, to being the Australian Project Manager for the Holland Heineken House during the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
“I am very excited to have been appointed as Project Manager for Australia’s first nature-based luxury resort. The Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is also Emirates first such hospitality development outside of the U.A.E. It will not only create jobs and bring business to the local area, but will be a vehicle for showcasing Australia to the rest of the world,” said Mr Heymeijer.
The project, scheduled to open in 2007, will be located on a 3,600 acre site in Wolgan valley, west of the Blue Mountains. The site is currently farmland that borders the Gardens of Stone National Park, in an area where there are many threats to wildlife and conservation. Guest facilities will occupy less than two per cent of the total land.
