Emirates opens new Business and First Class Lounges in Melbourne
Victorian Deputy Premier John Thwaites yesterday officially opened Emirates’ news state-of-the-art First and Business Class Lounge at Melbourne International Airport, with the luxurious A$2.5 million Lounge is modelled on Emirates’ multi-award winning First and Business Class Lounge in Dubai.
Emirates’ President Tim Clark said that the opening of the Lounge signifies Emirates’ commitment to not only Melbourne but the Australian market, adding “Melbourne was our first destination back in 1996, and over the past ten years we have brought thousands of passengers and their tourism dollars to Melbourne and Victoria.”
He added, “I’m pleased and proud to officially open the Melbourne Lounge today with each of our four Australian destinations now offering our First and Business Class passengers the chance to relax, freshen up, catch up on business, and enjoy hot and cold meals in our lounges.”
Deputy Premier Thwaites said that the Emirates Lounge demonstrated the importance of the airline to Melbourne and Victoria, adding, “There is no better way of wrapping up a visit to Melbourne than preparing for a flight home in this smartly designed departure lounge” adding, “It is another highlight in a relationship the Victorian government has with Emirates, with Victoria having benefited greatly from Emirates’ commitment to promote Australia and Victoria in non-traditional markets, and the new lounge demonstrating Emirates’ determination to contribute further to Australian tourism.”
The 727 square metre Lounge features marble imported from Italy, high quality leather for lounges sourced from Scotland, gold plated Rolex wall clocks from Geneva and designer bathrooms and showers and a business centre with eight individual work stations as well as an extensive menu prepared by a qualified on-site chef featuring both hot and cold dishes accompanied by full bar service including Veuve Clicquot champagne.
Mr Clark said. “Australia has been a focus for Emirates in the roll-out of its new Lounge designs, with similar facilities already open in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.”
The Melbourne Lounge facility is available to First and Business Class passengers as well as Gold members of Skywards, the frequent flyer program for Emirates and SriLankan Airlines.
